# Luv Michael Privacy Policy

Luv Michael ("Luv Michael," "we," "us," or "our") is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit
organization. This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect,
how we use and share it, and the choices you have, across our websites,
applications, and related services, including:
- our main website at luvmichael.com (the "Marketing Site"),
- our volunteer program app at volunteer.luvmichael.org (the "Volunteer App"),
- our team fundraising app at team.luvmichael.com (the "Fundraising App"),
- and our related pages, signup forms, fundraising and donation pages, emails,
text messages, live calls, and events (together with the above, the "Services").
By using the Services, you agree to this Policy.
## A note about young people
Many of the people who use our Services are students, including teenagers. The
Services are intended for people who are at least 13 years old. If you are
under 18, you may use the Services only with the knowledge and permission of a
parent or guardian. We do not knowingly collect personal information from
children under 13. See "Children's and teens' privacy" below.
## 1. Information we collect
Information you provide to us:
- Account and signup: your first and last name, email address, phone number
(optional), your timezone, and your confirmation that you are 13 or older
(and, if under 18, that you have a parent or guardian's permission) and agree
to our Terms.
- Fundraising: your fundraising page details, such as a display name, a
personal note, and a profile photo you choose to upload, and the amounts
raised on your page. Donations themselves are handled by third-party payment
processors (see "Donations and payments"); we do not receive or store full
payment card numbers.
- Rewards and thank-you fulfillment: a volunteer's mailing address when they
request a mailed reward (for example, a graduation cord), and a donor's
shipping address when a gift qualifies for a mailed thank-you package. These
addresses are used only to ship the item.
- Program activity: steps completed, advocacy letters sent, local resources
submitted, reflections you write, and friends you refer.
- Communications and support: messages you send us, your email and SMS
preferences and consent, and the content you enter into our in-app assistant
or website chat.
Information we collect automatically:
- Device and usage data: IP address, browser and device type, pages viewed,
links clicked, approximate location derived from IP, timestamps, and the page
that referred you.
- Cookies and similar technologies: see "Cookies, pixels, and tracking
technologies."
Information from third parties:
- If someone refers you to the program, we receive that referral. Our payment
processors send us donation records. Our advertising and analytics partners
may provide aggregated information about how our campaigns perform.
## 2. Cookies, pixels, and tracking technologies
We use cookies and similar technologies, which we group as follows:
- Essential cookies: required for the Services to function, such as login
and session management, security, and remembering your cookie choices. These
are always active and do not require consent.
- Analytics, advertising, and personalization technologies: used to
measure how our ads and pages perform. How these load depends on which of
our sites you are visiting, as described below.
On the Marketing Site (luvmichael.com), our approach is opt-in. We use a
consent banner managed by Cookiebot, and no non-essential cookie, pixel, or
tracking script loads or runs there until you affirmatively accept it.
**In the Volunteer App and on landing pages hosted by our email provider
(Mailchimp), our approach is notice and opt-out.** Advertising measurement,
currently the Meta (Facebook) Pixel, runs when the page loads. We tell you
this in a notice on the page, and you can opt out at any time using the
notice itself or the "Cookie choices" link in the footer. If you opt out, we
stop these technologies for twelve months on that browser and honor your
choice on every later visit.
Everywhere, we honor Global Privacy Control (GPC): if your browser sends
a GPC signal, we treat it as an opt-out and do not load non-essential
technologies, regardless of any other setting.
The analytics and advertising technologies we use, subject to the choices
described above, include:
- the Meta (Facebook) Pixel, to measure and optimize our ads,
- the TikTok Pixel, Google Analytics, Google Ads, and Ortto
(marketing automation) on our Marketing Site,
- PostHog product analytics within our apps.
Our advertising events never include your name, email address, phone number, or
mailing address, and we remove identifying details from web addresses before
any advertising measurement runs. Where Meta's Limited Data Use feature
applies, we enable it so that Meta restricts how it uses information about
visitors from applicable U.S. states.
You can change your choices at any time using the "Cookie choices" link in
the footer of our sites, or the consent tool on the Marketing Site.
## 3. The volunteer leaderboard and public recognition
Fundraising through the program is friendly and visible by design. If you
raise money as a volunteer, the following may appear publicly in the Services,
including on donor-facing pages and a volunteer leaderboard: your **first name
and last initial** (for example, "Liz M."), your fundraising totals and
milestones, and your rank among volunteer fundraisers. We never publish a
volunteer's full name, contact details, school, or location on these surfaces.
Donor-facing pages may also show recent-support activity in the same
first-name-and-last-initial format. If you would like your name removed from
public leaderboards, contact us at info@luvmichael.com and we will accommodate
you.
## 4. How we use your information
- To provide and operate the volunteer and fundraising programs, including
accounts, progress tracking, fundraising pages, leaderboards, and rewards.
- To communicate with you, including transactional email and, if you opt in,
SMS reminders, milestone celebrations, and notifications when your page
receives a donation.
- To process and acknowledge donations, and to ship thank-you packages and
rewards.
- To provide our in-app assistant and respond to your requests.
- To measure, understand, and improve the Services.
- Subject to your cookie choices, to measure and optimize our advertising.
- To protect the Services, prevent fraud and abuse, and comply with law.
## 5. How we share your information
We do not sell your personal information for money. We share it only as
described here:
- Service providers who help us run the Services under agreements that
limit their use of the information, including: Airtable (database), Vercel
(application hosting and file storage), Google (spreadsheets used for
shipping fulfillment), Squarespace (Marketing Site hosting), Twilio (text
messaging), Resend and Mailchimp (email), GiveLively and Stripe (donation
processing), the United States Postal Service and shipping tools (mailing
rewards and thank-you packages), PostHog (product analytics), Cookiebot
(consent management), Calendly (scheduling live calls), Chatling (website
chat), Anthropic (the AI assistant, see below), and Google, Meta, and TikTok
(analytics and advertising, subject to your cookie choices).
- Advertising partners: subject to your cookie choices, our pixels share limited event
and device information with Meta, TikTok, and Google to measure and target
ads. Under some state privacy laws this may be considered "sharing" for
cross-context behavioral advertising. You can opt out (see "Your privacy
rights"), and we honor GPC as an opt-out signal.
- Public program surfaces: as described in "The volunteer leaderboard and
public recognition."
- Legal and safety: to comply with law, respond to lawful requests, enforce
our terms, or protect the rights, property, and safety of Luv Michael, our
users, and the public.
- Organizational transfers: in connection with a merger, reorganization, or
similar transaction, consistent with this Policy.
## 6. Advertising and analytics
Subject to your cookie choices, we work with Meta, TikTok, and Google to measure how our ads
perform and to show relevant ads. You can opt out through our cookie settings,
through your browser's GPC signal, and through the ad platforms' own controls
(such as Meta ad preferences, Google Ads Settings, and TikTok settings). We
follow the ad platforms' policies that restrict advertising to people under 18,
and we do not use sensitive personal information to target ads.
## 7. Text messaging (SMS)
If you provide your phone number and opt in, we may text you your fundraising
link, helpful reminders, milestone celebrations, and notifications when someone
donates to your page. Message and data rates may apply, and message frequency
varies. We limit how often we text, and we do not text during late-night hours
in your local time. Reply STOP to opt out at any time, and HELP for help.
Opting out of texts does not remove you from the program.
## 8. AI assistant
The Volunteer App includes an assistant powered by a third-party AI provider
(Anthropic) that answers questions about the program. Please do not enter
sensitive personal information into the chat. Conversations are processed to
provide the assistant, consistent with this Policy, and the assistant is
instructed not to request personal information.
## 9. Donations and payments
Donations are processed by third-party payment processors (GiveLively and
Stripe). They collect the information needed to process your gift under their
own privacy policies. We receive donation records, such as the amount and,
where provided, the donor's name and email, but we do not receive or store full
payment card numbers. If your gift qualifies for a mailed thank-you package,
the shipping address you provide at checkout is used only to send that package.
## 10. Children's and teens' privacy
The Services are intended for people 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect
personal information from children under 13, and if we learn that we have, we
delete it. If you are between 13 and 17, please use the Services only with a
parent or guardian's permission. A parent or guardian who believes their child
provided information without permission can contact us at info@luvmichael.com
to review or delete it. We do not sell, and do not share for targeted
advertising, the personal information of any user we know to be under 18.
## 11. Data retention
We keep personal information for as long as needed to operate the program,
fulfill rewards and thank-you packages, meet our legal, tax, and reporting
obligations (including recordkeeping for donations), and resolve disputes.
After that, we delete or de-identify it.
## 12. Data security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed
to protect personal information. No method of transmission or storage is
completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
## 13. Your privacy rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete,
or receive a copy of your personal information, to opt out of targeted
advertising or the "sale" or "sharing" of your information, and not to be
discriminated against for exercising these rights.
- Cookie and tracking choices: use the "Cookie choices" link on our sites,
opt out via our cookie notices, or enable GPC in your browser, which we honor.
- Leaderboard removal: ask us to remove your name from public leaderboards
at any time.
- Requests: contact us at info@luvmichael.com. We may need to verify your
identity before acting on a request.
- California and other U.S. states: you may have rights under the CCPA/CPRA
and similar state laws, including the right to opt out of "sharing" for
cross-context behavioral advertising. Our honoring of GPC serves as a valid
opt-out signal, and we enable Meta's Limited Data Use for visitors from
applicable states.
## 14. Third-party links and services
Our Services link to and embed third-party services (for example, GiveLively,
Calendly, Instagram, and YouTube). Their privacy practices are their own.
Please review their policies.
## 15. International users
We are based in the United States and process personal information there. If
you access the Services from outside the United States, you understand that
your information will be processed in the United States.
## 16. Changes to this Policy
We may update this Policy from time to time. We will post the updated version
with a new effective date and, for material changes, provide additional notice
as required by law.
